Properties Of High Temperature Gases

Explosions, combustion, the searing temperatures associated with the very high speed flow of a gas — these are some examples of compressible flow where high temperature effects must be taken into account. For these and other situations the assumption of a calorically perfect gas with constant specific heats, is simply not good enough. We have to take into account chemical reactions occurring in the flow, and other physical phenomena that cause the specific heats to be variable.
